Went to this place in Phila. Although the food was very good, it was extremely noisy that weekday evening. Next to all the chatter they put the music even harder to get it heard. We were with a group and it completely ruined the evening. Two persons even left because talking was virtually impossible. The layout of the place was identical to what you describe.

Ah, what a lovely night it was again! The stars were out (although recognising the constellations became harder as the bottles past the test...) and the crickets did their job. You allmost felt in Spain!

Being European we love to be outside and allways wonder why our US neighbours spend so much time inside their houses? Nothing better than a night on the patio, a good book and a nice bottle. But it has to be said, with this bunch of guys, these nights become magic and immediately you long for the next one. Viva Rioja!

I recently visited Wolfgang's with the blogger. I have to agree that Wolfgang's is an amazing steakhouse. And the bacon is out of this world. The portions are fairly large, so don't go crazy on appetizers or sides. I can definitely see doing future business dinners here, but I can't imagine this as a great date place (you're just too full when you leave).

My wife and I and son, 9, just ate at Ming 2, in Morristown, and can confirm your review. The atmosphere of the place was different, especially for the boring suburbs, but .... My wife has been up all night with stomach cramps and dry mouth. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like I'd eaten a bucket of salt. I was very put off at being charged $7 for a bowl of rice - $7 for maybe 50 cents worth of raw ingredients! (I couldn't help thinking, as I ate this crazy rice, about all the times I used to hear about people starving in India.) The wait staff was very attentive, but our guy knew zero about wine yet pretended to be an expert.
All told, a v. disappointing experience, as we had driven 45 minutes to get there and were charged an arm and a leg for what was essentially tasty but ultimately greasy, MSG'd) Chinese food - not the delicate "Pan Asian" that the company advertises. In fact, 75% of the other patrons were of Indian descent, with a few other Asians.
When is someone in NJ going to figure out that there are masses of people who like good food and atmosphere but want the real thing, not an ersazt experience.

Underground Cafe is a dud. I would agree with the review - very cheesy decor and very average food. I had the Hot Rocks - the salmon was good, but the steak became overcooked (that's because the rock is really hot - hence the name - and the meat continues to cook). Not a place I would return to.

Joe's Shanghai is my favorite. Try the pepper and salt shrimp and the sauteed spinach - you won't be disappointed.

[...] The place is obviously very popular and I may be in the minority here but I would rather pay $25 at Coccola then the $18 here. Here’s my blog on Coccola http://foodielifestyle.com/2007/11/28/coccola-hillsborough-nj/ [...]
